Scrub, mitt, or both?

Everything here is cosmetic. It changes how skin looks and feels, and none of it treats any condition.

Which one should I start with?

They do the same job by different means, so most people only need one to begin with.

  • The exfoliating mitt works by friction alone, with nothing on it. It is the cheaper start at $22.99, it lasts for months, and there is nothing to run out of. Pick this if you want the simplest version.
  • The turmeric and sea salt scrub buffs with salt and leaves jojoba oil and vitamin E behind, so skin feels conditioned rather than just polished. Pick this if your skin feels tight and dry after a shower.
  • Together is the slow version: the mitt to work the scrub in, then rinse. The Everything Shower Kit puts both with the scalp brush.

Does the turmeric stain?

It can, and it is worth knowing before you buy rather than after. Turmeric is naturally golden. On skin it rinses off and does not tint. What it will mark is light grout, a pale bath mat, or a white towel used before you have rinsed properly. Use it standing in the shower, rinse the floor while the water is still running, and keep a darker towel for the days you use it. Nobody selling a turmeric scrub mentions this, which is why it catches people out.

How often is too often?

Two or three times a week is plenty for most people, and daily is where it stops helping. Over-exfoliated skin feels tight and looks red rather than smooth. If skin feels raw, that is the signal to leave a longer gap, not to scrub harder.

When in the shower?

Near the end, on damp skin, after the water has had a few minutes to soften everything. Work in small circles and rinse well. Put oil or moisturiser on while skin is still damp, which is when it spreads furthest and absorbs best.

What this does not do

Exfoliating removes loose surface skin. It does not remove cellulite, it does not change stretch marks, and it is not a treatment for acne, eczema, keratosis pilaris or ingrown hairs. Anything sold as a fix for a skin condition is a medicine rather than a cosmetic, and this is not that. What it does is leave skin feeling smoother and looking less dull.
